The Friends of St Mary, Linton were started in 1984 by The Revd Canon John Cotgrove to help with the work of repairing the church roof.

In 2001, The Friends were reconstituted as a separate Charity for the purpose of caring for the Church and Churchyard. [Charity Number – 10388328]

The Friends Annual General Meeting is held in May.

Success

Friends StallSince 2001 the Friends have raised over £100,000, through subscriptions, donations, a stall and a wealth of fund-raising activities. A generous gift, in 2007, of the estate of our late organist, Richard Godel, has also increased the annual income. This has enabled the Friends in recent years to contribute to new lightng, up-dating the sound system, repairs to stained glass and church fabric, a new south porch door, roof repairs, a new high altar frontal and kneelers, and a book cupoard.

Work in Hand

Stained Glass Window In 2009 the Friends gave £45,000 towards the cost of repair and cleaning of the windows, flint and stonework of the South
Wall Clerestory. Similar work is to be carried out in 2010 to the North Wall Clerestory and here the Friends have contributed £15,000.

The drains and soak-aways around the Church building foundations need an improved replacement at a probable cost of £50,000.
This work is on hold at present as the Friends do not have sufficient funds to cover the cost.
