Embracing musical traditions
At St. Mary's, we are committed to embracing a wide variety of musical traditions, from traditional to contemporary. We have a wide variety of services and each one has their own musical integrity. Here are some examples of how you can get involved in music ministry at St. Mary's.
The choir leads the singing at the Sunday 10.00 worship service on 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays. Choir practice is every Friday at 7.30 pm, and new voices are always welcome.
The music group leads worship at the 10.00 service on 2nd Sundays. We have keyboards, bass, guitars, percussion, vocalists and wind instruments. New people are most welcome to join.
A range of people lead our 4th Sunday worship at 10.00. Throughout 2012 and beyond, we are looking to really expand on this. So, if you are an organist, a pianist, a member of a band or community music group, a soloist - or something even more musically creative than any of that - and you would be interested in leading worship as a 'one-off' or be put on the rota, Rev Dr Steve Griffiths would love to hear from you on revdrsteve@hotmail.com!
Different musicians are involved at our other services too, for example our monthly services, our 5.00 and 6.30 Sunday worship. We are always keen to hear from people who may wish to be involved on an occasional or regular basis.
Bellringing is an important part of our musical tradition at St. Mary's. The Linton Guild of Ringers welcomes both experienced ringers and beginners. Bells are rung before the main Sunday service and at a number of weddings throughout the year. Practices take place each Wednesday evening at 7.30 pm.
